in whom dancing passions rage

to visit our Magic Heat Vent,
the Inflatable World’s stage.

When our furnace kicks on, the hot air shoots up
from the flat vent built into the floor

and as long as the warm gusts continue,
the dreams of aspiring balloon dancers soar.

As if choreographed by the swirling heat
balloons rise and climb by the wall,

they bounce up and down, but don’t touch the ground,
‘cause their partner wind won’t let them fall.

In spring when our furnace goes off for the season
the Heat Vent performances stop,

and the dancing balloons all drift back down to Earth
telling tales of winters spent on top.
