HEY SISTER, SOLSTICE-TER

On the longest day of the year
The seashore gets no rest
As folks in the endless daylight
Put the surf and sand to the test.

The fireflys have it easy
On the longest day of the year:
While the sun sweats it out forever
Those lightning bugs sip root beer.

The moon and stars and darkness
Have a different way to say
“The Longest Day of the Year,”
They call it, “The Year’s Shortest Day.”

Parasol, popsicle, & sprinkler salesmen
All stand up and cheer
Wherever they are,
Whenever there’s talk
Of the longest day of the year.
